Pork

The Hammett Family has been raising pork for at least 70 years. Beyond that, records and memories aren't clear.

We currently raise about 6,000 pigs per year. We get approximately 935 piglets every eight weeks from the cooperative we are a part of, Advantage Pork. These pigs spend 8 weeks in a nursery building before being moved to a finishing building where they stay another 16 weeks. At that time, the bulk of our animals go to Tyson Foods, the world's second largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork.

The pigs are fed a diet that changes as they age.

Far less than 1% of our annual pork production goes directly to consumers. We're working to change that. Starting in 2020, we will be directly marketing our products to our neighbors, both homes and restaurants. If you know of anyone interested in our products, please reach out to us. We would love to cut out the multiple layers of middlemen that affect the quality and price of the meat you purchase.
